Captain’s Susannah & Kenny
Meet Our Team
Throughout the year, we’d like to shine a light on our Pirate family. They truly are what makes our company special. We all live here in the Virgin Islands full time. Our team are not seasonal employees or people just here as a step to farther their career. Being a Stormy Pirates Crew IS their career and as you return year after year, you will get to see the same friendly faces over and over again!
Over the next few months, each crew member will shares stories about his or her favorite beaches, bars, and beer. Hopefully, these tips will give you a few insider tips about new places to go and explore.
Susannah & Kenny
This husband-wife duo, both Captains, thoroughly enjoy working together and showing guests the best and most beautiful places in the Virgin Islands. Kenny, originally from Georgia, lived in Asheville, NC for a couple of years before moving to St. Thomas 10 years ago. Susannah is from Louisiana and has been in the Virgin Islands for most of the past 18 years. They met in 2014, got married in 2019, and have no plans on leaving this spot in paradise anytime soon.
Read on as they share a bit about themselves in their own words.
Favorite Beach
Now that we live on the northside (of St. Thomas), we’ve come to love Neltjeberg Beach, which is only 5 minutes away from our house. It’s one of our favorite beaches, not only because it’s beautiful, but because it’s relatively quiet and we’re able to let our doggies run free. Captain, our oldest dog (2 years old), has a best dog friend, Joey (owner named Mary), that we meet on days off at 7am. Joey and Mary also live nearby and walk the beach almost daily. We make extra efforts on days off to meet them, so Captain can get some play time. Captain has also fallen in love with swimming after diving pelicans – really any bird at the beach there. So far he only has gotten close, and has yet to successfully catch one (thank goodness haha). Krewe (our newest, now 16-week old, 16-pound puppy) is fitting right in and tries to play hard with the big boys at the beach.
Favorite Beer Spot
Our favorite beer spot is Leatherback brewing in Havensight. They serve local craft beer, made in small batches in house. And there’s usually over a dozen different beers on tap. They often have live music as well as trivia night, movie night, beer school, and other fun happenings.

Favorite Weekday Hangout
Rock City Rec is a local recreation league that plays different sports throughout the year. They offer a fun Co-Ed sports league where having a pint with your friends after the game is highly encouraged. Sports include kickball, softball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, dodgeball, cornhole, and more. (https://www.facebook.com/RockCityRec)
The picture below is when Rock City Rec won the island-wide Slider Showdown this year. We highly recommend attending the annual Slider Showdown, King of Wings, and Chili Cookoff events that St. Thomas puts on if you’re lucky enough to be here when they’re taking place! All are fundraisers for local schools and/or non profits.
Favorite Hike
Our favorite hike is Brewers Bay trail. The hike starts at Brewer’s Bay on St Thomas, goes uphill following a natural gut, and finishes near the top of the mountain above a bat cave and with a beautiful view of the water. You can also see the airport from the peak here, and it’s fun to watch planes land from way up there.
Favorite Restaurants
We love to take people to Taco Chelles, a gourmet taco spot in Frenchtown. It’s our tradition to pick friends and family up from the airport and bring them straight here for chips and queso, tacos, and freshly-squeezed margaritas. The #1 taco is definitely the best taco ever.
We also love to go to Prime Steakhouse for one of the best views on island as well as delicious steaks. It’s the perfect place to go for sunset and for special occasions. This was taken at our anniversary dinner last year.
Fun days off
We enjoy heading to the island of Hans Lollick (accessible only by boat) when it’s flat and calm enough (rare in the winter; more likely in the summer). It has a beautiful beach (usually all to yourself), decent snorkel, and fresh coconuts everywhere. Bring a bottle of rum when you go – it compliments the fresh coconut water perfectly.
We enjoy taking a boat to St. John for happy hour. Sunset is a beautiful time on the water, so we like to time it so we’re coming back then. Our favorite watering holes in Cruz Bay (within a 5 minute walk from where the boat can drop you off) are Greengos and Longboard. If you’re hungry, try the nachos at Greengos – they’re delicious and will feed several people!
