The Baths & White Bay vs. The Baths, Cooper Island & Norman Island
Which BVI Adventure Is Right For You?
One of the most common questions we receive at Stormy Pirates is:
“What’s the difference between The Baths & White Bay trip and The Baths, Cooper Island & Norman Island trip?”
The truth is that both trips are fantastic adventures that visit the world-famous Baths of Virgin Gorda. Neither is better than the other—they’re simply designed for different types of travelers.
If you’re trying to decide which trip is right for you, here’s our honest breakdown.

First, What Do Both Trips Have in Common?
No matter which adventure you choose, you’ll experience:
- The world-famous Baths of Virgin Gorda
- Crystal-clear Caribbean water
- Incredible scenery
- A full day exploring the British Virgin Islands
- The personalized Stormy Pirates experience
After visiting the Baths, however, the two trips take very different paths.
The Baths & White Bay
Our Most Popular Adventure
The Baths & White Bay excursion is by far our most popular trip, we’ve been operating this exact same itinerary since 1976!!!
Most departures between (November – July) will operate aboard Gorda Pirate, our spacious power catamaran, and many departures sell out, well in advance. This trip will most likely be full!!
Why is it so popular?
Because it combines two of the most famous destinations in the British Virgin Islands into one unforgettable day, without being rushed.
After exploring the Baths, we’ll head to the legendary White Bay on Jost Van Dyke, home to the famous Soggy Dollar Bar, powder-soft beaches, beach bars, tropical drinks, and a lively Caribbean atmosphere.
This Trip Is Perfect For:
- Extroverts
- Social travelers
- First-time visitors to the BVI
- Guests who love beach bars and island energy
- People who enjoy meeting lots of new friends
White Bay is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, and that’s exactly why people love it. The beach is buzzing with activity, music drifts across the water, and there’s always something crazy happening.
If your ideal vacation includes meeting new people, sharing stories at a beach bar, and being in the center of the action, this is likely your perfect trip.
Important To Know
Lunch on this trip requires guests to swim from the boat to shore.
The swim is not difficult for most guests, but it’s something worth considering if you aren’t comfortable swimming or simply prefer not to get in the water.
The Baths, Cooper Island & Norman Island
Our Crew’s Favorite Adventure
While the Baths & White Bay trip is our guests’ favorite, the Baths, Cooper Island & Norman Island adventure is the favorite among our Captains and Mates.
Why?
Because it’s a more relaxed, intimate, and personalized experience.
Instead of heading to one of the busiest beaches in the Caribbean, this itinerary explores quieter destinations where the focus shifts from crowds and beach bars to beautiful anchorages, crystal-clear water, and enjoying the islands at a slower pace.
Because the groups are often smaller and the destinations are less crowded, our crew gets to spend more time getting to know each guest. By the end of the day, it often feels more like a day on the water with friends than a typical excursion.
This Trip Is Perfect For:
- Introverts
- Couples
- Families
- Guests looking for a smaller-group feel
- Travelers who enjoy a quieter atmosphere
- Guests who want a more personalized experience
No Swimming Required
One of the biggest differences between this trip and White Bay is that nothing requires you to swim to shore.
If you’d like to snorkel, you’re welcome to jump in and explore.
If snorkeling isn’t your thing, that’s perfectly fine too.
Many guests simply relax on the boat, float on a raft in the calm Caribbean water, enjoy the scenery, or soak up the sunshine while everyone else explores.
This flexibility makes the trip especially appealing for mixed groups where some people love snorkeling and others simply want to relax.
So Which Trip Should You Choose?
Choose The Baths & White Bay if:
✔ You love people, energy, and a lively atmosphere
✔ You enjoy beach bars and socializing
✔ You want to experience two of the BVI’s most famous destinations
✔ You don’t mind swimming to shore for lunch
Choose The Baths, Cooper Island & Norman Island if:
✔ You prefer a quieter, more relaxed day
✔ You enjoy smaller groups and a more personal experience
✔ You’d rather float, relax, or snorkel instead of a beach bar vibe
✔ You don’t want any required swims to shore
✔ You want to experience the BVI the way many locals and boaters enjoy it and not the way tourist do.

The Stormy Pirates Difference
At the end of the day, there isn’t a wrong choice.
One trip is lively, social, and full of energy. The other is relaxed, personal, and laid-back.
The best trip simply depends on your personality and the type of day you’re hoping to have.
Whether you’re sipping a Painkiller in White Bay or floating in the calm turquoise waters of Norman Island, our goal is always the same: to help you create memories that will last long after your vacation ends.
Can’t Decide? Here’s What We’d Do.
If you’re visiting the Virgin Islands for several days and want the best overall experience, our recommendation isn’t to do both Baths trips.
Instead, combine The Baths, Cooper Island & Norman Island with our Jost Van Dyke Funday.
Why?
Because the two trips complement each other perfectly.
The Baths, Cooper Island & Norman Island is a relaxing, laid-back day focused on beautiful anchorages, floating in crystal-clear water, and enjoying a more personalized experience with smaller groups.
The Jost Van Dyke Funday, on the other hand, is a fast-paced, action-packed adventure filled with beach bars, island hopping, great music, and plenty of excitement.
Even better, the two trips visit completely different destinations, so you’re not spending your vacation seeing the same places twice.
Many guests find this combination gives them the best of both worlds: one day to slow down and soak in the beauty of the British Virgin Islands, and another day to experience the fun, energy, and legendary beach bar scene that makes Jost Van Dyke famous.
One trip lets you relax.
The other keeps you moving.
Together, they create the ultimate British Virgin Islands vacation.
